Pearmund Cellars opened in 2002 as Virginia's forty-seventh winery, and its founder has become one of the state's most recognized wine figures. A former president of the Virginia Vineyards Association and a nationally certified wine judge, Chris Pearmund has had a hand in founding more than a dozen wineries and has taught wine education for decades. The winery reflects that spirit. It was among the first in Virginia to bring guests into the barrel room as part of the tasting experience, it operates on geothermal systems, and it originated the Ameritage blend of all five Bordeaux varietals. Later work, from the Cameo collection honoring women in Virginia history to the sixteen-winery Virginia Heritage collaboration, extended that record. Pearmund Cellars has been voted among Virginia's best wineries on more than one occasion.
